Speakers intermittenly cut out

Hey i have a system in my truck with 4(6 1/2) and 2(12" subs) and and 2 amps. My problem is the 6 1/2 cut out. My subs continue to produce sound but not the other speakers.

And also today, i notice that when you turn your key backwards and to turn on my radio its fine, but when i actually start my car it starts skipping out.

The amp doesnt turn off when it cuts out so i'm guessing when i start my car that it takes power away from my system and make it skip out like that.what can i do or any other ideas?..........................SIM

you are drawing the 12V switched from the cars radio circuit ... it's DESIGNED to cut out when the ignition is activated. Turn everything off befpre you start your car.

Ummm that didnt work because i have nothing to turn off.My entire unit turns on when i start the car.there is no way to turn it off unless im missing something here. also it cuts out when im driving too..it sounds like a cd is skipping but its not even a cd(MP3 or radio).

It sounds to me like you have a loose ground, or not enough of a ground in your stereo system. If they do not have a strong ground, they will cut out, "Like a CD skipping".

Did you have this stereo system installed by a professional, or did you do it yourself? And also, what kind of CD player and truck is it? I live with a stereo intalling professional (he does it for a living), he might know if there is something specific that your truck needs to maintain a good ground, or puch enough power to keep the 6 1/2's from cutting out.

Another thing to check, is to make sure that your speaker wires are not broken anywhere along the way. If the coding that covers the speaker wire is broken, they could 'ground out' on some metal on the truck, which would also explain your issue because when your truck starts up it would rattle the wire around until it touches some metal, and it wouldn't always be touching.

It could also be a lose connection somewhere along the way. I have seen many installers use bell caps to secure their wiring connections, and they come loose easily, which will create intermittent signal. Check all your connections, give them a decent tug (not to much), enough to see if they fall right out or anything.

every stereo has a way to turn it off, even when the car is on. You probably just leave it on all the time - since it will be turned off when you turn the car off.

As for cutting out intermittently, the poster above had some good things to look for. Most notably a poor ground or a pinched/loose wire.

ok i will try these and post another reply today when i've checked.I have a 2001 dodge durango...I installed it myself.

ok i tried everything i can think of...all thwe connections are good...none of the wires are damaged so im just about clueless...im going to take it to a car audio place and have them fix it...once they fix it ill re-post and let ya know what was wrong

do you have a multimeter ?
