just had the trans rebuilt in a 95 chevy half ton(4x4). put it all back together, and it starts fine, it just won't move. i filled the transfer case and transmission back up. someone told me that the torque converter might not be filled. is this a possibility? anyone have any imput?
thanks, chart

Did you install the torque converter dry? Or did you fill it with a qt or 2 of tranny fluid?

It could be a valve body retaining bolt in the wrong spot too and I have seen this happen. It is one of the longest bolts and will stop the sunshell from moving

How much fluid did it take?
Did the transfer case get bumped into neutral?
Pull a transmission cooler line off and see if it is pumping fluid or has any line pressure.
Did you get the pump gear in converter good?
Did the converter have any end play or slack before you bolted it up?

i think i am up to 10 quarts now. i shifted the transfer case into nuetral and then back into 2 hi and it grinds, but i now have it back into 2 hi. i will see if i get a chance to loosen the tranny lines tomoro. hopefully i find something out.

You are close on the transmission fluid.
Check and see if the transmission is pumping pressure.
Does the dip stick show full or overfull or low?

so just loosen a tranny line and see if fluid pours out?
right now the dipstick shows over full

Yes or put a pressure gauge on the presure tap and see if the transmission is building pressure.
If no pressure the front pump is not pumping.

i am working on getting a pressure tester. i put the truck back on stands and the wheels turned somewhat. the problem is when it is in reverse, the wheels spin forward.

Pressure test and get a good engine/transmission capable scanner on it.
If any codes post back code no.

i am still working on getting access to a scanner. the pressure tester read as follows: park/nuetral/drive- 70 psi at idle
reverse was slightly higher

park/nuetral/drive- 100 psi at 3000 rpm's
reverse was slightly higher again

do you know where i can get a scanner- does advance auto loan them out or anything-i don't think i can justify buying one just for this..

Check with Autozone or Checker. In the past I have paid a deposit on a scanner used it then returned it for a full refund of the deposit. That was for a engine scanner not a engine/transmission capable scanner.

Hope this helps.
