1998 Passport Timing Issues

I've got a 98' Passport with 211k miles on it. Timing Belt broke and had to get it towed home. I've gotten everything removed, water pump replaced, and a new belt ready to install. I've read the Chilton's manual about fifteen times and am still not sure how to go about getting the engine into the proper phase before installing the new belt. The damn thing reads like stereo instructions!! I have no desire to line everything up, install the belt, and rebuild the engine only to discover that the timing is way off and have to disassemble the thing all over again. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. :runaround: and yes I feel like this.

It's a lot tougher in the DOHC than the SOHC (pre-98) engines to get the timing right after the belt breaks. Was that the original belt???

I've got the thing back together and she's purring like a kitten. Thanks for all of your help. Oh, and yes it was the origional belt. I can't believe that it made it that long. I just never thought about it until it broke...."Stupid Owner's Disease" I guess.
