Master Clyinder Question

92 S10 Blaser 4X4 4.3 Automatic ABS Brakes


When the brakes are pumped without the engine running I can hear brake fluid in the resevoir hitting the resevoir cap, is this normal???? Brake pedal needs to be pumped while driving for full response.

I will bleed brakes for air, front pads were replaced recently. Also will check rear brakes for adjustment.

Just not sure about the fluid hitting cap during pedal application.

The fluid hitting the cap is normal for that application...

The brake system shouldn't need bled if you never opened the system, unless you cracked the bleeders in order to push the pistons back in the calipers.....

Why do you need to pump them while driving? Does the pedal go down as you hold it? Like the seals in the master cylinder are bad?

I know that the rear brakes need to be bleed because of a broken line being replaced thus creating a soft pedal which requires pumping to get a solid pedal. I need to remove the rear wheels for better access to the bleeders, being in the midwest salt is used frequently in the winter so everything is full of rust. It will take a good supply of penetrating oil to get the bleeders open, hopefully they don't twist off requirng clyinder replacement.

Hearing the fluid hitting the cap without engine running made me think that possibly the master clyinder was bad, since this is normal for this application I will bleed system and go from there.

If the ABS unit ran dry, which it would have when the line broke, you MUST use a scan tool to bleed the brakes.
