2003 Ford Ranger 4.0L

Thinking of purchasing a 2003 Ranger XLT, wanted to know of there were any common problems with this type and year of Ranger. Also if there are some things i should look out for be aware of. Its an automatic trans. ALSO does anyone know where i can get a free VIN search? see if the vehicle has ever been written off or in an major accident. THANKS all for feedback

I can only speak of my '99 Ranger 4.0 XLT. Although not perfect (no cars are), I'm pretty well satisfied with it. Caution however, I hope the vehicle has the 4.0 V6. Anything less may not meet the performance you want. If you're buying it from a dealer, they should have all the paper work. If not trace the ownership trail thru DMV.
