engine replace advice

I willl be replacing the engine in a 94 F150 4wd, engine is blown and locked so the convertor bolts are not accessable to remove. Is it easier to pull tranny leaving convertor hanging on flywheel? Or is it possible to pull engine with convertor still on flywheel and leaving trans still in vehicle? The truck does have a 4 inch body lift so this does give a little more room. Any help would be appreciated.
