The reason people are so mean to telemarketers is because they always seem to call during dinner or when people dont want them to. To call someone up and ask for a donation is a good cause, but still people really dont want to hassle with it. People would rather have the easy way out and drop money into a little pot or jar at the local store. It's nothing against you my friend, people are just naturally pushy.

I don't care what the cause is. Calling on my time and asking for money will not encourage me to donate. I contribute a few Ks a year to charities and I don't need the thousands of other ones to call with their hands out.

I worked telemarketing for 6 horrible months..at which point I could no longer deny to myself that I was scamming people, so I quit. (I have to say though, you'd have to be a friggin' idiot to buy a credit card for $219.95.) It is, like you say, awful to have 200 people say they hate you in 1 day, and to have 200 more hate you the next...

The final point when I realized for sure that I was ripping people off was when I put 2 and 2 together on my paychecks...the company claimed that only about 1/3 of sales went through so they'd only pay us 1/3 of our commission. If a company screws its own employees, what's it doing to the customers?

Best part, though, is that last month the FBI crashed my ex-job, confiscating their computers and everything...the Bureau had been investigating the case of credit card fraud for years gathering evidence. The owners probably have offshore accts. though and will get away with some of the money.

DON'T EVER BUY ANYTHING OVER THE TELEPHONE, PEOPLE!!!!

sad to hear that you got such a brutal introduction to the flipside of telemarketing.at the age of 17,your name will not appear on many mailing lists. As you get older, buy goods, get a listing in the telephone directory, etc, your name will be added to an increasing number of mailing lists. You will end up getting bombarded with requests for donations for many causes, most of them worthy, and offers of insurance, internet services, religious texts and every other hard-to-sell product under the sun.

The reality of telemarketing is that it's a very economical way to sell dud ideas. Most of the 'donations' collected by telemarketing companies end up being swallowed up as costs by the fundraisers, rather than going to the nominated charity.Like Yogs says, most of us have our own favorite charities, and feel much better for having made a donation without being prompted to do so. I make a point of not being uneccesarily discourteous to unsolicited callers, after all, they are just people trying to make a living like the rest of us,but,I tend to shut them down quickly and firmly. At least then, they can have a shott the next name on their list that much more quickly.

that sucks man, join the USAF you dont have to be able to spell to well. And its a steady pay check, its what I did when I was 18 and I have been in almost 3 years, I like it for the most part. you know what sucks? when people see me and they are say something like "you young punks", especially when I am wiht my crew. then we gotta bust out our DOD Id cards, people really wake up then...sorry i kinda drifted away but stay up man and you will find a better job man look into the USAF, dont take anyless..not the army, or the marines and sure as hell not the navy....
