flashing ses light

The other day about a minute after startup, 50 degree weather, while driving the ses light flashed for about 1 minute before going out. Does anyone know why the light would flash and not stay lit up? Should I see if any codes are stored? 2000, 3.5, 149k

In most vehichles, a flashing engine light is an indication of a bad misfire or lean condition that can damage your catalytic converter. Definatly do a code scan and see what is up with your engine....alot of auto shops will code scan/diagnose for free

HK is correct, it means there is a strong misfire capable of damaging the catalytic converter.

When was the last time you got gas in relation to the SES light?

I filled the tank the night before from the Mobil station down the street, wonderful 87 for the low low price of $3.46/gal. The car runs good overall, doesnt stall, sputter, skip or surge during accel. The spark plugs are new ac delcos. I'll see if autozone can pull any codes for me tonight. The O2 sensors are original and it was a colder morning. Maybe going bad + not enough warm up for them?

It almost seems to me like you might have gotten ahold of some bad gas, causing a brief, but intense misfire. But thats just mere speculation, based on the fact you had just got gas.

Maybe bad gas but I fill up at that station twice a week, but now that I think of it there was a tanker there getting ready to fill the tank/ just filled the tank so it could have been down to the crappy stuff on the bottom of the tank or freshly stirred up stuff. I'm still gonna get a scan.

Yes you guys are correct. My 99 lumina had a bad no.5(if I remeber correctly) plug wire shorting directly on the exhaust manifold causing the misfire and in my case stalling under heavy load. The misfire will flash the SES light!:smokin:
