I have a 2000 dodge caravan with the 2.4 liter 4 cylinder engine, I to replace the timing belt, but we can't get the crank pully off, is there a secret way of pulling it off? We have been using a slide hammer with 3 prong end... Also where do we line the cams, and crank up to place the new belt on it?
I have been working on this van for 4 days now, and can't seem to get any help around here, cause no one knows anything about the 2.4 liter dodge engines! :banghead:

Richard--If you are near a parts house, get a Chilton book on your van, it has the procedure for replacing the timing belt on the 4 cylinder engine, including how to pull the crank pulley. #1 is how to line up the timing marks on the cam sprockets and crank sprocket BEFORE you take off the belt. That is an interference type engine so don't turn the crank with the belt off.

One more thing,, I forgot about the free on line repair manuals. Look on this forum down a few subjects for the thread on the free online manual. eventually you will get to your engine(I looked, its there).

Welcome to AF. Sorry but Pontiac Grand Prix is the wrong forum to get help with your car and I don't think we can be of much help to you. I see you have a post at the Caravan/Voyager forum so I have merged your new post with that thread. Good luck!

Call Autozone to see if they have a crankshaft pulley/harmonic balancer puller in their LOAN A TOOL PROGRAM or purchase a harmonic balancer puller I have seen them at ACE HArdware, I am not sure but it seems like around $25.00. There should be some bolt threads in the middle to the balancer that you can attach the puller to, which also has a large bolt that sets against the crankshaft that can be turned to remove the balancer. A sliding hammer does not have enough force to remove a tight fit balancer. Also check the balancer when you have it removed for damage from the sliding 2 pronge puller.
Hope this helps

brad mault you would be better off posting a new thread in the Stratus forum.
