Clicking behind console

I was on another forum and someone told me to come here because you guys know everything so here goes......I have a 1993 Dodge Stealth SOHC V6 3.0 It has been giving me fits for almost a year now. It will start but only when it wants to. When it does start, it runs perfect. We have replaced many parts..fuel pump, fuel regulator, ECU...etc. It does not seem to be getting fuel to the injectors. We have noticed that there is a clicking sound behind the console. If the clicking sound comes to quick after you turn the key off, the car will not start. If it takes longer to click, the next time you start it, it will start right up. Does anyone know what this is and what controls the fuel to the injectors? Is there something besides the ECU that does that? Also someone said that it could be the ignition switch being bad...I was just wondering if anyone knows what this might be? Thanks for any help...I am about ready to give up on my Stealth. :banghead:

The clicking is the MFI relay. Remove the carpeted panel on the passenger side of the console and you will see gold box. Thats your clicking and could be your culprit.

I guess that was already replaced. Do you have any other idea what the problem could be? We thought that was the problem but apparently it wasn't. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. :)

Im still trying to think here, but I see by your profile youre located in Washington PA. Is that the Washington in Washington County? If so Im around an hour from there, Im located south of Uniontown and work in Carmichaels which is right outside Waynesburgh. If its still giving you fits I may be able to take a look at it.

Ok Im geting a clicking behind the console. more in the area of the engine electronic control relay and it is clicking. Ive changed that and it still clicks what clould it be. Could it be the factory alarm fighting my aftermaket alarm! my aftermarket is a phython model 902.

Hmm, well, honestly, replace the MFI relay again, because that is whats clicking and that is only around $30 if it is in good working order then your either having a short somewhere on and off (ie electronic gremlins) or (and more likely imo) your ECU is starting to go, it can cause all kinds of odd happenings and the MFI relay clicking is one possibility. The clicking is the relay resetting btw.

a bad ecu is generally the problem when the MFI relay randomly clicks on and off. You can get ghetto with it and rig up a switch to manually turn on and off the MFI relay or you can just get another ecu. To be sure it is the ecu, take it out and open it up. The 3-4 capacitors in there may show some signs of leaking. If any one of them is leaking, it's bad. If the damage isn't too bad I would send it out to get cleaned up and the caps replaced by AVPro down in florida.
