Please help here. I have a 2000 cherokee with a 4.0. The check engine light has come on and I read the error code p0305 which indicates a misfire in cylinder #5. I have replaced the spark plugs and the ignition coil rail and still get the same error code after clearing it out. It usually takes a day or two for the light to come back on. Anyone ever experienced this or have a clue as to where to go next? Engine has great acceleration and power. You can feel a slight miss when sitting at a red light or stop sign but nothing major. Gas consumption has not changed either.

A miss fire code can be set by an intermittent faulty injector as well as a plug or coil. Also you could read out your CPS, but not likely to be the problem. If you have a bad injector, swap the injector with a different cylinder, does the code follow, or stay with #5 cylinder. Another thing, what kind of plugs are you using? Also try swapping the plug to another cylinder. Just because they are new, doesn't mean they aren't broke. ALso inspect the boot for any cracks, or deterioration .
