Well its finally finished and has taken over 3 months to finish due to having next to no modeling time thanks to work!

Overall, I think there is a huge difference in terms of quality between these older kits and the newer issues from Tamiya and Hasegawa, for instance there were no interior door panels included, no roll cage, no suspension units, wheels & tyres were awful and the clear plastic pieces for the windows are about 2" thick!!

On top of that - I have still not got my ALPS MD4000 working with my PC yet and therefore I could build the version I intended so I left it as a left hand drive 'no.7' car which I believe was driven by Per Ecklund at some point. Oh and I used some foil decal for the silver around the windscreen, the first time I have used the stuff and its quite good, not sure if its a little too shiny though!

If I ever get the ALPS working I will add the decals later hopefully.

All in all, enjoyable but to make the kit anywhere near decent (... and mine is by no means perfect) these older kits take an awful lot of work.

thanks again for following, the next project is Mansell's 1988 Williams FW12. I will have more pictures on my website later today.

I really like what you have done with this model. The PE supports for the front lamps is a nice detail touch. The BMF chrome looks okay to me... it may be slightly brighter than normal, but it would look like that if anyone took Brasso to the original.

Kind regards,
Bill

P.S. The only small suggestion I would make concerns the flowing of ink into the recesses for the door panels, bonnet, boot, etc. I have used brown ink (rather than black) on my current red Ferrari as I find it to look more realistic against red. It is not meant to be a criticism, just food for thought.

An interesting project brought to a finish. This looks very nice. Though it seems as the paint is not as smooth as you normally have it done. Or do these british cars need to like this?? You know that this is not serious criticism, I just like to know whether the decals added to this effect?

Robert,

the blue is sprayed and for some reason seemed to react slightly compared to the red and white. I managed to polish the worst of it out but as you rightly point out you can still see a little eggshell here and there.

I really should have stripped it all off and started again but it was too much work to do for what was meant to be a quick project.

thanks for the kind words too!

Oh man that takes me back. Those things sounded awesome. :smokin: You've done a great job on a poor kit. I recall putting one of these together about 20 years or so ago. It's great to see one again. Well done.:)

Great little project and a very cool looking car. I really like the supports for the lamps too.

Great job, Sean

I remember when the TR7 was launched, I absolutely hated it. After all those beautiful earlier TRs, I remember thinking "how could they make this crappy wedge of plastic cheese?!?! :banghead:"
Now, looking at yours, I get a nice, warm, fuzzy feeling of nostalgia  Thanks for that ;)
