Yamaha R1 custom design

Hi Guys, I had the Tamiya Yamaha Taira Racing kit waiting to build, i thought just painting it silver was a bit boring so I have decided to do a bit of a custom paint scheme, loosly based on some of the more recent R1 bike paint jobs. I choose zero paints Gulf metallic blue, champagne silver and black for the main colours. Any feedback welcome.
Cheers

This is a sketch I mocked up of the design, it may change slightly as I go...
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg129/colbro1973/bodypanels.jpg
Body work was sprayed silver first, then I masked off and sprayed the blue over the top, finally finishing with the black stripe along centre, a few spare decals applied. the blue looks absolutely stunning in the flesh, the pictures don't quite do it justice, the satin finish also looks lovely, though I think I will clear coat it to bring out the colours even more.
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg129/colbro1973/wheels-1.jpg
decided to do weels champagne silver instead of black
http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg129/colbro1973/carbonbits.jpg
started exhaust and rear hugger, again used my own cf decals, very happy with application on hugger, will probably knock pattern back a bit with a waft of black. Exhaust needs masking and sprayed with alclad chrome, and some heat staining.
Thats it for now

Absolutely stunning work. CF is great and so is your masking job and color choice. Did you mask for black on the top cowl with masking tape or something else?

thanks joel, just used tamiya masking tape for all masking, it works really well with zero basecoat paints

Bit more progress made, I have clear coated body panels and hugger, 3-4 coats of Mr hobby.

To complete the exhaust I initially sprayed gloss black, then applied cf decal, then clear coated a couple of times, then masked carbon and spray alclad chrome, finally added some heat staining. just need to apply manufacturer decal to end can.

cheers jezz, microsol doesn't have a great deal of effect, it does soften it a bit, however it is really thin and quite tough. I find it really easy to use, and I am quite crap at decalling without microsol!! I bought some crazy modeller cf a while ago and found it impossible to use, microsol had no effect on it what so ever.if you are interested in trying some send me a private message and we'll sort something out.

Hi guys, here are some pics of the finished bike, minus number plate and paddock stand, will get round to these eventually, also I should get the woman figure done in the next few weeks and post a few more pics, on this. hope you like, any feedback welcome. I really enjoyed making this road bike, my first, its a shame that tamiya don't do some more of the modern sports bikes, or even some superbikes instead of mainly gp machines, hopefully they will release some in the future.

You have made a great bike! Paint job is flawless. And the detailing is perfect too. Could you write down how you painted the chain? I think it is so great!

Thankyou everyone for your remarks, far too kind! On the chain, joel, I didn't really do anything that different to what I normally do, I think maybe my wash was stronger and it looked much better for it. I primered it first then sprayed metallic grey avoiding the sprockets as much as possible, didn't bother masking though, than I sprayed the sprockets a greeny gold colour (again no masking just careful airbrushing), colour was mixed with vallejo metallic paints, although I normally use tamiya but there is a huge shortage of them in the UK at the moment! I gave the sprockets a wash with thinned down Metallic grey and flat black. next I gave the chain a wash with slightly heavier wash of same colour. finally I picked out chain links in gold and rivets in silver, also painted bolts on sprockets silver. I think I may of give chain a second light wash at the end also! was really pleased with results though especially on photo, you can never see the same detail with the naked eye!
thanks

thanks Ro, the front forks where left in the metal finish the came in kit, to achieve the gold, I airbrushed lightly clear orange with a tiny bit clear smoke mixed in, and that was it. for the inner fork part I covered with thin self adhesive chrome film, which joins at the back out of sight.
