Silverado blend door actuator

I lost the heat on my Silverado. The fan would blow but only cold air. Both hoses were hot going to the heater core so after checking the forums I started looking at the blend/air actuator door motor. I removed it from the door and moved the temperature control with the key on and it did not turn. I opened the motor and was looking around when I saw a familiar sight ( I am an electronics tech) a 10 ohm resistor with the board beneath turned to a really dark brown. The stripes on the resistor are color black- brown-black. Looking at it from the bottom of the board it was obvious the solder joint was bad. You can tell because the solder is dark and not shiny like the rest of the joints. From experience I checked the value of the resistor with an ohm meter and it was reading 68 ohms. So i replaced it with a new 10 ohm 1/2 watt resistor and it works fine. When you see all the gears the only ones that need to be marked is the one that goes directly on the door, and on mine there was a blue gear next to it. This is the feedback for the control unit, so just turn the big gear all the way to its stop, and mark these two. These motors run around $50 to $60 bucks and a pack of resistors was a $1.50. Hope this will help someone as I have been helped many times as the result of reading this fourm. Good Luck

I am having the same problem. Where is the blend door actuator located? I looked under and behind the glove box and behind the switches as much as I could see. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

It is front and center - just slightly to the right of center above hump- barely enough space to get your socket into it- between hump and screws- very easy to access

Thanks a bunch, now all I gotta do is figure out how to get my 6'4 carcass folded up enough to get where I have access to it.
