long time problem

I have a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix that has been shifting hard and tacking up high rpms. It seems to get worse the longer you drive it and my wife says it is worse in the rain when there is alot of moisture. It doesnt cause the SES light to come on but does have a stored code of long shift. We have had the cat convertor checked and its clear. The transmission guys say until the light comes on...they cant help. any suggestions?:banghead:

Tell the transmission guy not to hold his breath waiting for a SES/CEL light because the P1811 DTC (max adapt, long shift) does not trigger the SES/CEL light. The stored DTC of P1811 is normally indicative of a bad PCS solenoid which also causes the harsh shifting due to commanding maximum line pressure when that respective DTC sets and may inhibit proper TCC operation.

the latest recommendation is for us to have our transmission rebuilt ($1350). They are willing to put in a new PCS for around $500 but suggest it will only be a short period of time before we need to have it rebuilt anyway. This car has 143xxx miles on it and the problem started at about 110xxx.
