electrical help

So I was trying to install my aftermarket stereo and I guess the gorund wire accidentally touched an another wire and sparked up. I wired everything up correclty but nothing worked. Stereo fuse is fine, and the stereo fuse under the dash is fine as well..

Anything you guys think that could be wrong... I was thinking of checking the rest of the fuses/ or replacing them if anything is wrong.

But all my tail lights, head lights, brakes lights etc. work so Id assume there is nothing wrong with the rest of them.

Would something reset or anything if i remove a fuse to check it?

I been over it all day and cant seem to figure out why the Stereo wont power on.









I was thinking of having all the wires replaced and redone, are there any kits made for the 80's caprice to re wire everything?

Try powering up the radio directly from a power source.

If you simply twisted the wires together and taped them up, that makes for a potentially weak and unreliable connection. I always solder connections and insulate them with heat shrink tubing, but crimp connectors or small wire nuts and some electrical tape would work. Anyway, I like the suggestion above to "bench" test the head unit by powering it on using a direct source of power and ground. This will eliminate the option that the unit is fried if it powers on.

Make sure the wire marked battery (sometimes orange or yellow) is properly loaded to a point on the fusebox that always has power, and the 12v wire (usually red) is on an IGN source at the fusebox, and that both fuses are good (there are fuses on both bat and 12v lines on most aftermarket radios).

I just hooked the deck up to the car battery and the HU turned on, all fuses are good none are blown out. I have no idea whats up.

I just ordered an wiring harness so I will see what happends from there.

I'm just no understanding is all the fuses are good. I wired the Stereo to the factory harness real good and no power to the Stereo. But when I hooked it to the car battery it comes on.

your ground point in the car is not grounded or your + (hot) wire in the car has a open point meaning you must go check on the + wire with a test light to find the power outage. good luck 463

If you have a multi meter do a continuity check on your fuses. It may look ok but maybe blown. Also check for power at the tie in and work your way back. Check your grounds to.

Is there another fuse box under the hood? If so where?

Not sure of a location but it'll most likely be a black box near the firewall or fenders.
