Hi I have a 2003 4.8 Silverado with almost 71,000 Miles on it. About 4 months ag I had to replace the alternator, and had the belt replaced too. The other day unexpectedly my alternator crapped out on me again. Before that I had no problems with starting or stalling but it just came out of nowhere, im just curious could there be a bigger problem as to why my alternators keep quitting on me? Also after I had it fixed the 2nd time I got it back and on my service display center I have a message saying Service 4 wheel steer, and I dont have quadrateer, or does this message mean something else....any advice would be appreciated!!!

A bad battery can cause an alternator to fail. If the internal resistance is too low, the alternator will constantly work harder than it should have to and will overheat. Try removing it from the vehicle and charging it. If it never takes a full charge (according to the charger), replace it. An aftermarket stereo system (or any other aftermarket device) can also cause them to fail if it draws too many amps.

The quadrasteer thing sounds like a computer problem.

i don't like rebuilt alternators......if this was a rebuit one that is why it failed....many of these alternators are not properly inspected on rebuilding ...also when ever an alternator is replaced the battery must be charged and i always measure the current out put after installing new alt. to ensure that something isn't drawing too much from the alternator.....did you do this repair? was this rebuilt? 70,000mi is not normal for alternator to fail......as to your service light hopefully the repair person did not remove battery while engine running....as this will damage the vehicles computer...only an incompetent auto repair person would do this..

Bosch remans are usually good. We will use them if new is not available, or if the customer wants it done cheap and they don't want any guarantee it will last. If it's available, always use new.

Sure, say it when she's not here to defend herself :lol2:
