On my '95 it was on the outside of the trunk lid hinge on the passenger side. Just a white piece of tape with 5 numbers on it. Seems strange they would put it on the outside of the hinge so anyone looking on when the turnk lid is open can see it. I covered mine with masking tape.

Good point Stan, I guess no one uses the default code. I programed my Lincoln once and had to disconnect the bat, then never bothered to program it again. We use the keyless entry on my wifes Sable all the time. I will use your tape idea to cover the code, you are right no one needs to see that.

Other than that sticker on the right hinge, I have never found that code any where else on the Town cars I have striped. I've heard people saying that the code is on the module, but it's not on the 91-93. I have a good module from a 93 TC that I know the code for, let me know if you need one.

I believe it was Steven that said it is under the driver door lining somewhere - can't remember how that went.

It wasn't Steven it was srielly77 and I quote: " if it is missing from the bracket in the trunk it is also inside the driver side door panel on the module itself.

What's up Stan. I thought Sean's (aka srilley77) Town Car was a 95 or 96 model. I don't know about those newer models. I will find out on the 95 TC, since I am picking one up in morning. Another treasure to add to my yard :grinyes: I am going to have to take the door panel off my 96 Vic to make some repairs, I'll look around for any keyless modules. The older model TC's have the keyless module in the passenger side kick panel area. Thier is a blue relay in the drivers side door, that's for the one touch down power window feature. I think some people might confuse that for the keyless module. See the link below for a picture of the early keyless module. 1991 to 1993

I have no idea who he is or what he drives. Mine is a '95 and I had asked that same question right after I got the car. What I just quoted above is a reply that he posted for me. I didn't look there because Steven posted about it being on the trunk lid hinge and sure enough there it was.

UPDATE

On the 95 TC the keyless entry module is mounted on the drivers side door. The code is on that module. So for 95 and newer that is most likely the case. On the 90 to 94 TC the module is located in the passenger side kick panel area, and the code in not on the module.

We have this posted a few times, a search would find this stuff.. however, here's the process from the book:

THE KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEM

Unlocking the door with the keyless entry system

In vehicles equipped with a Keyless Entry system, you can lock or unlock the vehicle doors and open the trunk without using a key. The system will work with up to four transmitters. The manufacturer provided the computer code that operates the system in three places:

* on the owner's wallet card
* taped to the right hinge of the trunk lid
* taped to the computer module in the trunk (early 90's)

When the system is activated, the illuminated entry system turns on the interior and keyhole lights for 25 seconds and the buttons on the keypad light up.

Before unlocking the trunk or passenger door(s) you must unlock the driver's door. If you let more than five seconds pass between pressing numbers on the keypad, the system will shut down and you will have to enter the code again.

1. To unlock the driver's door, enter the factory code or your personal code. All codes have five numbers. After pressing the fifth number, the driver's door unlocks.
2. To unlock the passenger's door, press the 3 / 4 button within five seconds of unlocking the driver's door or trunk, or re-enter the code to open the driver's door, then press 3 / 4.
3. To unlock the trunk, press the 5 / 6 button within five seconds of unlocking the driver's or passenger's door, or re-enter the code to open the driver's door, then press 5 / 6.

Locking the doors with the keyless entry system

The Keyless Entry system can also be used to lock the vehicle doors. You can also use the Autolock feature to automatically lock the doors after entering the vehicle.

To lock all of the car doors at the same time, press 7 / 8 and 9 / 0 at the same time. It is not necessary to first enter your keypad code. This will arm the anti-theft system (if so equipped).

AUTOLOCK (With Keyless Entry)

The Autolock feature (if equipped) will automatically lock both doors when:

* the vehicle doors are fully closed
* the ignition key is turned to the ON position
* someone is sitting in the driver's seat or a heavy object is placed on it and
* you shift through Reverse

The Autolock feature will repeat when:

* the ignition key remains in the ON position
* someone remains sitting in the driver's seat or a heavy object is on the seat, and
* a door is opened and then closed.

Using the buttons for the keyless entry system can deactivate the Autolock feature.
To deactivate the Autolock system:

1. Enter the permanent five-digit entry code (not the personal code you may have set).
2. Within 5 seconds, press and hold 7 / 8.
3. Within 5 more seconds, press and release 3 / 4.
4. Release 7 / 8.

To reactivate the Autolock feature, simply repeat the instructions for deactivating the system. The Autolock feature can be turned on and off using these instructions.

Programming your own entry code

You can program a personal code to unlock your vehicle. This code does NOT replace the permanent code, but you can use the personal code in the same manner as the original code.

To program your own code:

1. Select five digits for your personal code.
2. Enter the permanent code.
3. Within five seconds, press 1 / 2.
4. Within five more seconds, enter the personal code you have selected, pressing each digit within five seconds of the last digit.

The keyless system registers this second code. To unlock your vehicle, you can now use either code. However, the module remembers only ONE personal code at a time. Entering a second personal code will erase the first one and replace it. To erase your personal code:

1. Enter the original permanent code.
2. Press 1 / 2 within five seconds.
3. Wait six seconds.

The Keyless Entry system automatically erases your personal code. The system will now only respond to the permanent code.

*It is recommended that a code not be set that represents numbers in sequential order, or uses the same button repeatedly.

Arming / disarming / resetting the anti-theft system from the keyless entry pad

The Keyless Entry system will arm the anti-theft system when you use the 7 / 8 and 9 / 0 keys to lock the doors, and will disarm or reset a triggered alarm when you enter in the five digit code to unlock the driver's door. The remote entry system is designed to work with the factory installed anti-theft system. It may not work with other anti-theft systems.

Memory Seat Feature (If equipped)

The vehicle allows the remote keyless entry system to control the Memory Seat Module. With this feature, each of the first three transmitters programmed will recall a different seat position (the program only allows three memory positions). When unlocking a vehicle equipped with the programmable Memory Seat/Outside Rear View Mirrors feature, the seat and the outside mirrors will adjust to position that is set for the transmitter being used.

Pressing the transmitter UNLOCK button once will unlock the driver's door and move the seat to its corresponding memory seat position. You may change seat positions at any time. Once programmed, Transmitter #1 will always move the seat to position #1, transmitter #2 will always move the seat to position #2, etc. The feature is turned on at the factory, but you can deactivate the system by using the buttons for the keyless entry system if you do not want to use the feature.

To deactivate the Memory Seat feature:

1. Enter your permanent entry code (not any personal code you may have selected).
2. Within 5 seconds, press and hold 7 / 8.
3. Within 5 more seconds, press and release 5 / 6. Release 7 / 8.

To reactivate the Memory Seat system, simply repeat the instructions for deactivating the system to reinstate the feature.

NOTE: The Memory Seat function will continue to work from the door switch even when deactivated at the remote keyless entry module. Only remote seat recall can be deactivated.

I am willing to bet that a lot of folks don't have this information due to a missing owners book. I always like to have the book on my cars. Good one Steve. Print this out guys.

I always lose what I print out. It's in my way until I need it, then I can't find it!

I copy/pasted it into Word. If I need it I can always print it from there.

Thanks guys for telling the whole world where the secret code is located!

Most of the "whole world" already knows anyway; look at how many Fords are on the road. I think the error lies in Ford putting the numbers on the outside of the hinge where anyone can read them when the trunks open. It should have been on the inside if they were going to put it in such a place at all.

As it is, I go to Cosco and grocery shop and buy a 50# bag of dog food. I go to my car and open the trunk to put the stuff in and there are 10 people walking by, many who know what those numbers are. If someone with ulterior motives sees me leave the car to go back inside for something I forgot, or to use the restroom or to get a sausage and coke, in seconds all my stuff is gone, including my wifes purse because she keeps it in the trunk. Therefore I cover the numbers with tape.

This information is to be used for responsible and legitimate purposes only. Guys you shouldn't be using the default code, program something that only you know.

Bearfoot

I have a code for me and a separate one for my wife. Even so, anyone who sees the default code can use it. Personalized codes don't wipe out the default code. Keep your default code private.

Ok, time for my :2cents: ..

I've always been against programming too many codes even though it's purpose is for the luxury of convenience.. noble at face value.

I mean, it sure is nice when you have different sized drivers, they all have their own code that automatically sets the mirrors and seat positions to where they left them.... however;

It's been documented that sweeping the keypad can accidentally press the buttons in a correct sequence that opens the door. Having too many possibilities (entry codes) greatly enhances the chances of hitting the correct combo... nuff said.

I, like Stan, have a Wife with a separate code, which makes my TC more susceptible to 'sweeping' entry.
