Wiring for deck

Hi,
I just recently got a deck for my 2004 chevrolet cavalier... the problem is, some people are telling me this year for cavalier's needs a special wiring harness that costs about $120... is this true? Or can I get a normal wiring harness or nothing at all? Thanks a lot!

You need a factory interface replacement ONLY if you wish to keep door chimes (chime that sounds when headlights are left on, key is left in ignition, parking brake on, etc..) and the little feature that allows the deck to stay on 10 minutes after the car is turned off or until the driver's door is opened. If you don't care about those features then a regular wiring harness can be purchased for $5-10.

If you find a interface replacement for less, I would advise not to buy it. I purchased a cheaper $40 dollar model by Scosche at Wal*Mart before, and this device short circuited my ABS module.

All in all- If you want door chimes and power system, buy the quality unit, If you don't care, you can purchase a regular harness.

Another note, If you go with a regular harness opposed to the interface replacement, you'll have to find and tap into 12v power wires.

i still haven't done mine. i'm lazy.... and broke.... not to mention i don't have a whole day to rip my car apart anymore. :( wanna do it and then drive me around :D

So a sunfire on the other hand, you just pull the face trim down around it and call it a day. I think i am liking this thing more and more already!

Yeah Cavalier's dash :banghead: I did my friends Protege installation and after that I was like, that's it? Oh and I like the new sig with your 2 J-bodies. :) I need to make a new one...
