Someone attempted to break into the key ignition cylinder and steal the car. Didn't get away with it but now I have to replace with another key column. Can someone explain how to take apart and replace a new ignition down the inside of the column.

Try visiting this site. You will have to enter in your vehicle in the repair section. I think what you want is in the electrical section. If they don't have your year, try an earlier year. http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=885567&page=4
I'm not totally clear what exactly needs replacing. My guess is the key cylinder is no good. The actual ignition switch I believe is below the key cylinder. So unless your thief damaged that too, it should be ok. I am concerned about making the cylinder exchange if you can not turn the cylinder with or without the key to the Run position. Under the steering column under the lock is the cylinder release in a small hole that a pin is needed to push. Hopefully someone with a newer model that has done this recently can chime in, especially how to take it out if the key doesn't work.
Disconnect the battery ground before starting! Wait two minutes before starting. Nobody likes getting the airbag while working!?!

Take the steering column covers off and you should be able to remove the ignition switch.
