Just wondering: Transfer case interchange?

I have a chance to get a used transfer case from a 1990 K1500 with 305 or 350 (the tag is missing from the rad shroud and I forgot to look at the VIN) for $60.00. I thought I would rebuild whatever is worn and keep it on the shelf for a spare. My question is, will it fit my 92 K2500 (not HD) with 305 and/or my 88 K3500 with 454? I do have to remove the case myself, so is there anything I should be taking other than the case c/with tail stock? I saw some linkage at the side of the case; is it easier to disconnect at the case, or at the shifter? Where does the wire harness go that's attached to the case? I tried to remove it but there seems to be some sort of clip on top of the case holding the harness in place. We're in the midst of getting a foot of snow, so I didn't want to play around under the truck longer than necessary since I had already removed the skid plate from under the case. It took forever because the owner had undercoated the truck with some kind of very gooey undercoating which made removing the bolts a real chore in this weather. Any help would be appreciated.

It should fit your 3/4 ton, but you'd have to measure the transmission where it bolts on for the 1 ton.
I would take the linkage as well, unless the T-case is the same number the linkage could be different.
I can't be of any help on the rest, I never had to deal with it.

should be a 231C
good case alot of the 4x4 guys like these for conversions and such
try to get the adapter also
the linkage comes of easier at the shifter leave it on the case
most were combined with 700r4/4L60/E trannies
i have an adapter and case mount from one such combo from a '90 k1500 if you need a pic i have one already uploaded somewhere in my pics albums
good luck

Got the case; it's a 241C. I couldn't see the tag originally because it was covered in undercoating. The tranny fluid was a nice red colour and the silicone seal where the transfer case bolts to the adapter didn't look too old, so I think this was rebuilt in the recent past. The truck only had about 140k miles on it. I couldn't get the bottom bolts of the adapter loose as they seem to be way into a corner that was too small for my wrench, and I don't have a snap-on 15mm which probably would have had a thinner wall on the box end of the wrench. I also took the shifter and linkage and housing. I removed them first and it actually made the job of unbolting the case easier because I could access the top and top left bolts through the hole in the floor rather than working from underneath around the front drive shaft. I couldn't remove the front drive shaft when removing the case because someone had tightened those four bolts with an impact gun, which is what I used at home to separate the shaft flange from the case. Thanks for all your help.
