I'm fairly new to this engine stuff but in chevy terms i think its considered a 305 5.0 if thats what you have. I'm pretty sure theres some numbers or letters you gutta look for on the VIN number or soemthing. "Silicon212 would know." And i do know that if you're looking for performance parts for the 305 there isn't much worth doing "I've been told." There is a youtube video where some guy put in a new cam and a blower in his 305 and it sounds great for a 305 but it all depends how much money/time you wanna spend on it. I have a 305 and the most i'm probably going to do is put on a true duel exhaust.

I have a 94 and a 95 and there is a sticker if you open the hood near the latch and it has the engine size and a picture of the belt and pulleys. mine says 4.3L V8 so yours might read 5.0L V8. And the 5.0 was a 305 i believe.

Look on the "Catalyst" sticker. My truck's says "5.7 L" my Caprice said "5.0 L" If it's 5.7... it's a 350, if it's 5.0 it's either a 305 of 307 Olds motor. If it's a 4.3 L, then it's a six cylinder which would have probably already been given away by the enlongated fan shroud and lack of 8 exhaust ports.

If it's a wagon, it will have the 307. If it's a sedan, it will have the 305. Confusing? Not really. The 307 is an Olds engine and you can tell if you have one by determining if the oil fill is up front and not on the valve cover, as on the Chevy (305) engine. Also, if your car has fuel injection, it CAN'T be a 307.

I wasn't sure if they had put the 307 into sedans or not. I do know they were commonly used in the wagon's.
