92 laser with no reverse

hey all got a 92 laser. its a 1.8 with a 5spd trans. 1-5th is all good and ri=uns and drives fine. i go to put the car in reverse and it acts like its in gear but, the car goes no where. if you put it in reverse and let off the clutch it will stall. so its like its in gear. any help would be appreceated
