Ford has released new plastic cowls for under the hood to fix the coils from burning out. Water would flow down the windshield, past the box with the wiper arms and onto the coils. I had mine replaced 6 months ago and no more bad coils. At 40,000 miles I burned coild every 3000 to 3500 miles.

Hope this helps guys !

This TSB only resolves the issue for the Gen2 - like you stated - water gets into the COP covers and causes the problem.

Much more common is the issue with the valve cover gaskets allowing oil to leak into the spark plug wells. This was addressed with a TSB and a gasket redesign.
