'92 Achieva -- Starting problems and runs rough

Great forum! Glad I found you folks.

Here's the problem:

My Achieva stalled out on the way home from work a couple of weeks ago and wouldn't restart -- cranked and cranked but wouldn't turn over.

I had had problems with her running rough when it rained.

I had her towed to a new mechanic who came highly recommended by a friend who collects cars. This guy -- who seems competent and honest -- replaced the plugs, wires, and coils, and gave her a complete tune-up at my request. He also unplugged a drain under the hood; water had been pooling ont he carpet in the front seats.

The new mechanic also (at my request) looked her over pretty thoroughly to assess her.

She drove great the day I drove her home. The next morning, she started like a champ. I drove her to the gas station, got some coffee, came out -- and she wouldn't start. Not a peep. No cranking.

After several attempts, I took the key out of the ignition, put it back in, and she started up. She ran great for that day and the next, and I didn't think anything of it.

Didn't use her Sunday or Monday. It rained a lot Sunday and Monday, so when I went to driver her Tuesday (yesterday), I was apprehensive. But she started like a champ, and off I went to my local polling place to vote.

Came out, no start. Again, I jiggled the ignition. Turned it several times. No start, not a peep. All the lights came on, as well as the heat and the radio. Again, the key doesn't feel right in the ignition.

Five minutes later, she started, and off I went in the direction of the grocery store...and then she started running rough, threatening to stall. So I turned around and went home.

This morning (Wednesday), I drove her to the gas station for coffee, and when I came out, guess what? No start! Again with the lights and stuff, and no starting. I tried starting her several times, then waited a few minutes. THEN she started and I limped to work because she ran very rough.

I'm driving her to my mechanic tomorrow morning, but I just dished out a lot of money to fix the roughness/stalling problem, and now I have a NEW problem (the lack of starting).

Any suggestions? Could this be a wire? Ignition switch? Fuse?

Help! I need this car to run!

Could be your ignition switch flaking out.

Could also be your crank shaft position sensor going out or has a bad wire.
You car being a ODB 1 probly wont show a code for this, but I would hav it thoroughly scanned to see whats going wrong.

Good Luck
