Cold air intake problem...

Hello I have a 98 Mitsubishi Galant and I have done quite a few things to it but am having a problem with getting a cold air intake piping kit for it. I already have a 4.5 maf adaptor with a nice K&N filter on it and modded to stay in place. I can find plenty of kits for different year Galants and such but they will not work because the intake comes in the opposite side. Looking at the car from the front underneath the hood the intake is on your left side rather than the right side like other Galant years. Something that comes out and bends towards the battery would work as long as it isnt too long(well I could just cut it I guess). Here I have posted some links to some Galants being sold on autotrader with the same engine and year of car as me. Look at the engine and the side the intake comes in. Remember the air box is there in these pics as it is not in mine. Mine ends at the MAF adaptor with a 4.5 in diameter and long K&N filter on it. I still have about 4 inches before I would hit the battery. Any help would be great. Thanks.

It sounds as if you know what the parts should look like and you know what a cold air kit should have so..... make one!
You should be able to find a metal fabricator that can make 3 - 4 inch inside dia. tubing.... a shop that fabricates large truck exhausts could do this. Just design a layout with the appropriate bends (must be made with a mandrel) and lengths. Use short pieces of universal truck radiator hose (3 and 4 inch sizes are available) with big hose clamps as connectors.
Spot weld or clamp on a mounting bracket or two and away you go.

BTW if you do this, make 5 more and sell them on line and make a bit of $$$. Likely you are not the only person who is looking for one.

Any idea what other cars would maybe have something similar to mine? I think it would just cost too much to have something like that specially made you know? I just want one of these kits or something like it for my car to be the final puzzle.

honda civic. seriously my old sentra had a sort of similar arrangement but on the other side of the engine bay. i bought a cheap civic intake, cut it to size, and it worked like a charm. just make sure your MAF is about the same distance from the TB, and that the filter doesnt screw up the readings. if it does, put another extension on, maybe a 90 degree to put the filter in the fender, and it should work fine.
