tire sizes

2003 2500hd now has oem tires 245 75 16 want to go to a larger tire while keeping truck stock. what size should I be looking for? preferably michilen.

My boss runs 305 70 16's but they look too wide for the rim IMO.

In my opinion, 285's are too large for stock rims. If you go with these, it may require cranking torsion bars and trimming lower valance.

My boss has been running the 305 70 16's for years on his HD with no clearance issues. I've got 265 75 16s on my non HD 2500 and it's close. I wanted 285s but I'll need to crank the bars for that.

285 will fit perfectly on the stock wheel and should fit with no cranking of the TB... Will look good

I am running 285-75-16 on my 04 2500 crew all stock and no cranking on the bars. The tires do rub the plastic fender liner slightly when backing up with the wheel turned about half lock. Just makes a noise like a baseball card in a bikes spokes sometimes.:rolleyes:

Can I fit 33's with cranked torsion bars(lift keys) and 3" blocks in the rear. Also how wide is the stock alloy rim for an 01?

10" wide wheels make any tire larger than stock a tough fit... With 8" of lift I couldnt fit 35" without major rubbage when turning. With some good crank and trimming you should be able to get about a 33" in there, maybe.

Ok while on the subject of tire inflation, i just put on a set of Durango ATs in 285/75/16 and i have threm set at i believe 42 PSI (max 45) and i notice that when i have clean treads and drive on something with a light dust i notice that the dust covers all the tread except for about 1" to about 1.5" from the outside edges of the tread like the outside edges are not touching the ground, is this normal, or would this be considered too much air pressure and will i see the tires start to wear in the middle. I am already not getting good gas mileage and i dont want to let air out and get worse. Thanks!

Sounds like a little too much PSI... I would run about 35 and see how that does. You will be amazed at the difference with the ride.. When I was running Toyo AT's, I ran 38 up front and 34 in the back. Got great mileage out of the tire too.

OK, sorry i gave you bad information, the max PSI on my tires is 65 and i had around 55 in them so i let it out to 43, should i let more out and what would be the effects of letting more out?

First I would see how the footprint looks at 43. use baby powder or something similar to the dirt you had before. You ultimately want and nice even tread pattern on the ground, no high or low spots. Although you dont want to let out too much air, it will kill your MPG's, not to mention your tires will start to cup and wear un-evenly. Play with it. Find out where you get the best ride vs. MPG
