hard start - tach

I feel like I'm rebuilding this sucker from the ground up. I had sporadic hard starts and a die-out at low speed. It was coding crankshaft position sensor but the mechanic assured me that it was history only and the problem was the Throttle position sensor. I had that replaced, but the problem didn't go away. Now what she's doing is starting hard after being driven 10+ miles - never cold. The tach is also periodically cutting out. I think I may be looking at a combination of ignition switch and crankshaft position sensor. She's a 97 3800SE. Can anyone tell me how to replace the sensor?

Welcome to AF.
Based on your symptoms crank position sensor. We have a CKPS replacement procedure applicable to the SII 3800 Vin "1" and "K" engines at our Tips & Maintenance forum. See link below.

You need a new mechanic. As bnaylor stated, you have every symptom of a bad CKPS, including the trouble code for it. Why would your mechanic suggest a TPS?!?!?!?!
