New Member 1985 S10 V6 2.8 Vacuum hose question.

I dont know if at some point I inadvertently removed my distributor hose or it rotted off, but its gone regardless. Does it require ported vacuum or manifold vacuum. The info tag for my hose routing (on the fan shroud) is in such bad shape I cant read it any more. My Chiltons is useless it tells me to read the tag. Who makes the best service manuals? Hanes and Chiltons I find lacking a lot of information and good diagrams and/or pictures.
My S10 was a transition year. It has a carb and no computer. Rebuilt at 108,000 Kms now has 370,000 Km
Another point about setting the timing with a light does the hose have to be removed and plugged during the procedure? or am I thinking back to my Ford days?

Most were venturer or ported vacuum.

Yes vavuum advance hose is removed to set timing.

my diagram is not all that clear, but it looks like it goes to the thermal vacuum switch. Usually those are near the thermostat housing and have a few different vacuum ports.

Thanks for the info but there are 4 positions on the thermal vacuum switch. I really would like to get a look at that diagram if anyone can find a good copy of it.

Can anyone tell me the timing advance setting for the 85 S10 with carburetor? This information is not in my Chiltons either and I cant read most of that tag either. Also I doubt if GM here in Canada will still have the stickers listed. Are there any places online that sell aftermarket labels for automobiles? Aside from the information they contain if you were doing a restoration its nice to have all the original stuff.

There is several different ones.
Back in them years they got carried away with vacuum hoses and lines.
Most of them will need a lot of vacuum line replaced.
Is it a Std or auto trans?
Federal or calf emissions?
Plus UDF and UDL and UDN setup.:grinyes:

Timing is around 10 degrees BTD. with vacuum line disconnected.

Check the Auto Zone on line auto (repair )web site.
If they do not have it post back with all info on what it is and I will see if I can find it for you.

I'm looking at the vacuum diagram and there's a "distributor vacuum delay valve". Logically, and not by the diagram, it looks like the distributor hose goes to the dvdv. The dvdv then goes to the thermal vacuum valve (the diagram does not specify which port. Also the dvdv has a third hose that goes to the B port on the carburetor.

I said before that the hose went to the thermal vacuum valve because it really looks like it does in the picture. It's possible that it splits off to both from the thermal vacuum valve, but that would mean that the dvdv has two hoses routed to the thermal vacuum valve. That doesn't make any sense, but those 80's vacuum systems didn't make sense sometimes.

But this one has about 10 different vacuum setups on it.
We need more information to get the right one.

I think thats got me sorted out. Didnt actually find a diagram like is on my fan guard.
