fucking potholes... :banghead:
I just bent a steel wheel on the Cobalt almost an inch deep because of a fucking pothole. And the sad part is that they are like 14" wheels with an assload of sidewall... :disappoin
So... Now I'm running on a donut for the moment... Looks like I'll be buying those new wheels sooner than I wanted to... :runaround:
Damn you Ohio!!!

Looks like it's time to take out my frustrations on the rim with a sledge... Wish me luck...

Don't come to Chicago right now then. There's a pothole every 3 feet basically. We've got terrible roads at the moment. Actually making national news all across the country. Terrible!

Hehe... Well, I think I got it bent back good enough for now. I was able to remount the tire and get it to hold air. We'll see how it does once I have to drive to work tonight and contend with more bumps and potholes...
Things like this just give me one more reason to leave Ohio and never come back. lol... California is sounding really good this time of year...

Cali has emissions though and is nearing a communist state. You should move to Missouri. :)

Ya that sucks sometimes they are unavoidable. Thats why I have chrome rims the thick layer of chrome surrounding the steel protects against everything including ex girlfriends taxes and V8's.

Brian, how fast were you going? And was it really a pot hole? I hit one doing probably 45 last summer... it was a big, deep bastard and I hit with my 17 aluminum rims with approximately 2 inches of sidewall and nothing happened. My guess is Brian was drunk off his ass and powersliding parking lots at 90+ then asshole of a curb jumped out of nowhere! :p

HAHA. See I just keep my 15s on in the winter. There's like 5 inches of rubber from the ground to the rim

I was doing about 45ish... This son of a bitch was huge... Like this fat girl I know... HUUUUUUUUUGE...
Definitely not powersliding in the Cobalt... This time...

Why not? My quick test drive up the road and back seems pretty well... Although the sidewalls aren't looking too healthy on it. I'm definitely picking up some new tires at the end of the week for it, if not sooner...

I'm in the same boat, I really would not trust that rim. Even if it holds air, doesn't mean its going to be round.

Bah... So far, so good.
Of course the sidewall isn't looking too healthy on the tire. I am going to get my new tires tomorrow I think... Also, I think something else got damaged in the suspension from the pothole. I have the most terrible suspension rattle when I hit any kind of bumps now. :(
Oh yeah, I also found out that my tires are rated at 44lbs of air max... They only had 20lbs in them all from the last owner. I definitely cranked that up to 40lbs and my fuel mileage went waaaaay up. My last tank of gas averaged about 26mpg. I filled up my tank after correcting the tire pressures and now I'm averaging 37mpg... Booyah! :smokin:
Did I mention that is handles like a shopping cart now? lol

:
Prabably a busted weld from beating on it that only reveals itself when everything is loaded up. :frown:
EDIT - Also 44 lbs is the max rating. The cold tire pressure is what you want which is on the sticker of the drivers door. Probably more in the mid '30 range.

I'm hoping no busted welds... I'm also hoping no blown out strut... :(
I figured I would be good at 40lbs for now and as the weather starts to warm up, I'll check it and let it out as need be...

Physics, with the coeeficient of friction in the tread, the air in the tire heats up, heated air = increased PSI, hence filling the tires at the cold rating. If you fill a tire that has been riden on, the base line is all off. I think it's 1.5 to 2 PSI for every 10 miles of heating to the tire temp rating. (it's been a while so I may be a bit off on the exact numbers)

I would just run 37psi. As far as catching it from the previous owner, you should have caught it. Your not new to cars so you should have been reviewing the car from ground to roof.

03-05-2008, 06:48 PM

Actually every other week dude. Pretty much when I fill up for gas or before I go to fill up for gas. It's best to get in the habit of doing that.

Haha. Reminds of one day when I noticed that only the center of every time on my friends truck were worn out. I said man why you running such high air pressure? He said "I read on the internet it helps gas mileage". Tripped me out. I run 45psi in all the tires on the clipse, usually run 32ish psi but since the inside of the tires wear out prematurly due to negetive camber, I raised the air pressure way up to (in my theory) help even out the tire wear due to more tire touching the ground...not sure if it helps, but w/e, it cant hurt.
But I could care less about checking the tire pressure, im not anal about that. The only time I check air psi is when one is visibly low. like every tire on the civic is slack but I dont give a damn, lol. And one of the tires on my clipse only keeps like 10psi in it cause it has a screw in it, and I dont feel like fixing it, so I just let it ride like that.

Well yeah, I have my pressure up to 37psi, its louder than hell. I check my presure about every 2 weeks, just to make sure they wear out evenly and make mileage stay good.

Atleast once a month, more often in winter, and when washing. Tires are the first and foremost compnent of the suspension system. To say anything of undermined fuel mileage. :grinyes:

I check mine when I change the oil, when I am doing a good detailing, or when they just look a little low.
