I have a 97 Monte it didnt start when i got it but now since i replaced the wires, plugs, coils, module, both crankshaft sensors it runs somewhat. Im getting sparks, but i have to put the gas to the floor to start it but it wont stay running, but every once in a while it will stay running idles really rough but it backfires and shuts off. i ran all vaccum lines they seem fine. I dont kno what else to do... PLEASE HELP!!

you will have to back track, this is put old parts in one at a time as the new parts are bad.....my experience in this is, get meter measure resistance of old wires then remove new and compare maybe this is the lucky guess as to where its messed up......new wires or plugs can be bad.....what type plug did you use?????

do you have the right plug wires on the correct spark plug/coil pack/firing order for sure? also, make sure the plug wires are connected on both sides, they should "snap" on.

What brand plugs did you install?

I have bosh plugs and i have autolite wires, but i put the same ones in my girlfriend car thats the same year and model and they work just fine on hers, i even lined everything u off her car to make sure its all the same.Ive put the code reader on there and its keps coming up as Mutiple Cylnder misfire..and 02 senser but i kno a good bit bout cars ive worked on them awhile and i kno it still should run ok without thata newe one in it.

I'm very surprised the bosch plugs worked fine in your gf's car. Are they plats?
I just got done chasing my tail to figure out why my 98 Pontiac ran rough. For 25K miles I poked and prodded just about everything until I swapped out the plugs for OEM's AC Plats. Smooth at it was new and I've got 172K miles on it. :bigthumb:

I put the bosh copper plus in it.I firgure it will at least run.I bought the car 2 weeks ago for 500. It had one owner the car its basically in mint condition. The car didnt run, but now since i changed the sensors and the other thing it runs but i have to press the gas to the floor and it will run on its own sometimes but it has an iractic idle and it'll backfire and stall.

if you have a code reader make sure the maP sensor is good , and make sure there are no intake air leaks after the maF....also if wires are good resistance check and also silicone dielectric grease on insides of plug boots....torque plugs to 15ft lbs max....

I had some problems like that with my 95 Monte Carlo and believe it or not the ignition had alot to do with it. I had to replace my ignition and my key which has a chip. It was defective and then the other problems were easy to fix after I could actually get it to stay running.:iceslolan

Shouldn't the code reader bring all that stuff up thats wrong though...Its only saying its misfiring in mutiple cylinders.

Yes, it should and is. Thats all the sensors are seeing.
I would get multiple misfire and then a X# cylinder misfire and plugs looked fine.:runaround: :banghead:
Swapped out the bosch and bam problem solved, any difference is my bosch's were plats.

I run double platinum autolite plugs and Beldin (NAPA) wires in my Monte's They are great plugs and great wires. Its possible you don't have the gap set correctly on the plugs? That can actually happen... i forget the gap measure, but it should be under your hood on the cross member by the radiator (on top.)
