Headers??

I've got a 1993 Cutlass Supreme SL with the 3.1L V6 Vin T engine in it.

Now first off, i know this isnt a car made for fun and racing and such, but I really enjoy my car, and all though i cant do much do it, i thought i might as well do something.

So does anyone know where i can get headers that fit this motor? I'm pretty sure they dont make them for the 3.1, but i heard somewhere that headers from the 3.4 will fit the 3.1 with only slight modifications? Tis True?

Any help or other tips would be GREAT!!

Can't say about where to get headers, but I can tell you, 3.1 and 3.4 are identical externally. They use the same casting number heads and intake. So, if there ARE headers to fit the Grand Prix or Regal, they will also fit Cutlass Ciera (or other FWD versions). The variation could be the twin-cam version.

By twin cam version, you're talking about the DOHC right? if it's the same then does that mean an exhaust manifold from a 3.4 will fit directly on my 3.1 but most likely with no gains. From what i can remember from the 3.4 it did look similar, the way the exhaust was routed around the engine and such.

So if i find headers for a 3.4, then i just found headers for my 3.1
do you think i'll have to modify anything?

i found Pacesetter Headers for the 2.8 and the 3.4, thing is it's under the camaro catagory, and im pretty sure those are rear wheel drive, so the exhaust would go straight back, instead of to the side past the intake and such. if anyone has any info or ideas how i can make it work, that'll be awesome!!!

Getting ready to order some headers for my GA GT from these guys later this week.

Hmm, that site seems a lot more like what i want, because they have headers for the 3.4, and i'm told they are the same exact set up, and the pontiac is most likely front wheel drive, so the engine is mounted sideways like mine. How much are your headers? chances are if i do go through with this crazy idea, im going through that site. Hope theres a return policy if i end up being way in over my head :grinno:

These were the ones i was looking at, dont look all chrome and shiny, which is alright i guess. im more for function then i am for looking like a hot rod...but the chrome would be nice. and i was thinking of adding the extra 150 for the ceramic coating...

as for a cat, my car is already running catless, OBD I, no testing, no broken cat. doesnt plan to be forever though...

I didnt want the shiney anyway, no one see's under the hood much, and I'll probly wrap mine with heat tape to keep the temps down as much as possible.

If I dont wrap them I'll paint them with some VHT........

..... white!

sounds like a good plan, personally i dont mind the black either, and i was thinkin i might as well spring for the ceramic coating. it helps out a bit, and then probably wrapping them up, love to keep those under hood temps down.:grinyes: same for the performance of the car. i heard somewhere that by letting them work hotter it helps in the burning of all fuels and allows for a high velocity through the tubes, yay for power and mileage...if your easy on it.:grinno:

you could also lookup headers for a 90-94 cavalier z24. They came with the same 3.1 v6

Whether headers will work from another similar platform or engine may not be applicable and I would not make that assumption. :grinno: You could be in for a rude awakening and finding out you wasted money. There are other issues other than engine similarities. Use common sense.

I just completed installing S&S ceramic coated (Jet Hot) headers in an '02 Olds Alero GL2 (3400) and trust me it was a real PITA. :grinyes:

headers look good, but just curious if anyone is familiar with the 3.1. There are two engine mounts in the front of the engine, they hold the engine to the upper tie bar, aka the core support... the problem i'm a little worried about is rather or not the headers will clear the engine mount, I want to put these things in, but i want to be sure they'll fit, anyone know if theres a return policy with that website or anything? or if these headers will fit?

XGamesJ6, If you are thinking about headers from SS Headers you should call them and ask if they make ones to fit your 3.1L !!!
I was thinking the exhaust port on some older 3.1 heads are in different locations( a little to the left or right) then they are now on the 3.4's.

I dont think they are returnable as they are not made untill you place an order, surly thier would be a restock fee if you did return them.

Good Luck!
