Yesterday while driving ina slow block in Manhattan, my SHO dies on me 2x without a reason. It started right up after I pulled up to the side of the street. It has never done this before. After that it was fine but while at iddle, it would loose power but it started back without a hitch. One thing I have to say is that i was running in 1/4 or a little less in gas. This morning it started like nothing. Any ideas?

Sounds similar to what could happen when a fuel pump is on its way out. The pump is an electric motor in the fuel tank, and it relies on the fuel to keep it cool. If the fuel filter hasn't been changed recently, you may as well do that too, but I bet you'll find that the pump fails soon.

I was already thinking in replacing it along with doing a injection cleaning job. Lets see if anyone else had any issues like me.

Consider yourself lucky. a) You were able to drive away both times without a tow. b) It lasted this long. I assume you have close to 100k by now? My 95, 3.8L crapped out around 50k and was 40 miles from home. Sounds like it could be your fuel pump as I try to jostle my memory. Does the pump sound any louder than before? See if you get any more support on the fuel pump before you count my 2 cents as the deciding vote.

I'd like to add that I first attempted to fix my problem by replacing the fuel filter, but was disappointed that it didn't 40 miles from home. Point being, your problem might be that, especially if it hasn't been changed in awhile. But, I'd be prepared for the fp to go bad. If the filter change fixes it, great, if not and you need the pump, the filter needed to be changed anyway.

Rod, could it just be the filter? I've never been that lucky.

I have no history in the car. Got it at a very cheap price and the engine is perfect but other things are the ones giving me hell. I was paying close attention and I hear like a very low in volume high pitch constant beep-like sound coming from the trunk area. Firts I thought that could be the Amplifier located at the trunk but it is coming from under the car so I am assume that is what you are refering to. Did yours sound like that before went away? Please advise.

Yep, that sounds like a fuel pump on it's way out. A constant whistle-like noise while the car is running. When you first turn the key to run, you may hear that sound for about 1-2 seconds, but when the car is running, it will be constant?

That whisttle like sound stays on for a long period of time. I have heard it for 15 minutes sometimes.

So is it safe to declare war against the fuel pump?

I'd wait until it's down to about 1/4 to do it. A full fuel tank is pretty heavy.

I have the bad habbit of not letting my tank go below 1/2 tank but is cool. My mechanic is replacing the pump and fuel filter for $245.00 so screw him. Let him husstle a little for his money.

Be sure he changes the fuel filter and drains out the gas line from the tank to the filter to be sure that nothing trapped in the line above the filter doesn't get into your new filter.
