I have this kit on hold for a while now, and I finally found the motivation to finish it. The kit went together fairly easily, except for the fact that the cowling doesn't sit correctly. I also decided to cover the entire rear wing with CF. It took 39 pieces of CF decals and 4 hours to complete. But the end results look a lot better than X-18. Anyway, less talk, more pics. Enjoy! :grinyes:

Nice job!! You don't get to see Mika Salo's machine very often. :) I see the CF decals on the rear wing, it looks great!

39 pieces just for the wing? Yikes, you just scared me off CF for life! It looks great though, very nicely done.

Great model. I particularly like the varied use of CF, e.g. SMS twill on the rear wing but Studio27 on the side pods and cam cover. The tyres are great too with the weathered look you have achieved. Nice detail all-round.
One thing... I notice you have omitted the antennae from the side pod.
All the best,
Bill

Sharp eye there, Bill. ;)
I realized I forgot about the antennae after I took the pictures... it is there now, I just didn't want to have to retake all the pictures again.
tbh, I think I overdid it a little on the tires. It just looks strange with the tires so dirty but the car so clean. :p

It really wasn't too difficult. Making all the little templates out of masking tape was the most tedious part.

The tyres look fine to my eyes. This is one hell of a great build.
Bill
P.S. On the last image, I also noticed that the front wheels are steered to the right but that the steering wheel is straight ahead... however, I thought it too pedantic to mention :)

I kind of agree with you, but that spoiler tops it off for me. I love the very fine pattern that you can't see from a distance, but can very close up. That is super slick! I love it!

Hi
I totally agree with the others. This is a great build of a beautiful (and not so often seen) car.
I like it very much.
Particularly the tires are superb. Oh, and the rearwing is "da bomb". 4 hours... You sure have a lot of patience and perseverance. But the result is great !

LOL, is there anything you don't catch?
Actually there is something you missed. You can see on the left side of the monocoque the decal with Salo's name on it. That decal is missing on the right side, forever lost on my carpet.
Oh well, one of these days I might buy another one of these kits and do the #3 car in the early season all blue livery. Or perhaps someone that's planning on building Ukyo's car can give me their Salos. :naughty:
Anyway, thanks for the great comments everyone. It will certainly encourage me to do even better for my next project.

Beuatiful build. I love the fourth photo. If there weren't those folds in the decal, it could pass as real :). And having 39 pieces for just the rear wing?! Well, results prove they were all worth it as it looks great. Tyres are realistically worn down too. Top stuff. Just shame about some decal issues.

I've used replacement decals so my original Salo driver decals are surplus to requirements. PM me with you address and I will post 2x to you... just in case you have another carpet incident!
Kind regards,
Bill
