If you mean a leak in the exhaust manifold gasket or a crack in the manifold, I've heard that it can. I have no idea why.

Why? Let me explain a little...

A "Burnt" Valve is a valve that has lost it seal. You have two types of valves, intake valves and exhaust valves. Generally it is the exhaust valves that burn, because they are exposed to higher heats than the intake valves.

Why does a valve burn?

1. They can break down from common wear and tear through getting older, or the more you drive the car. You will notice a lot of weak preformance in the car at that point.
2. The valve can burn if the lash closes up to quickly, which can happen for many reasons, but not because of an exhaust leak.
3. Valves can burn if the engine gets to hot, or over heats constantly, which will also cause other problems, such as cooling problems, abnormal combustion, detonation, loss of EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation), retarded timing or lean fuel mixture.

It has been in my experience, that a leak or break in the exhaust manifold generally just causes your vehicle to loss horse power and have an obnoxiously loud engine. It can also cause you to fail your emission test.
