Okay here's what happen I was driving down the road and I actually thought I was running out of gas when the truck started to somewhat buck alittle I was wrong .... I pulled over and poped the hood to find the idler was braking . I towed it home went up and got a new one put it on . now the truck won't start . Does anyone have any suggestions to what could cause that to happen ? I really don't want to take this to the dealership .

What engine is installed in the truck?
Does the engine crank but not fire, or does it not even crank?
Is there any noticeable popping in the intake or exhaust?
Do you hear the fuel pump run for two seconds when the ignition is first turned on (turn it to RUN, not START) ?
Can you test for fuel pressure?

There is a test port on the fuel line right before the throttle body. Just screw the tester (available at auto parts store, often as a loaner or rental) on the test port and cycle the key a couple times. I believe the pressure should be 60-67 PSI on these, but I'm not 100% sure on that. Even a few pounds low on a vortec can cause a no-start. If you have fuel pressure, check for spark.

I think the pressure spec on the 454 is 56-62psi. Have you checked for spark at the plugs?

Hi checked the pressure is right where it needs to be now , thanks you that was helpful so that may have been part of the problem but There seems to be no spark at the plug .
Thanks everyone for all your help so far I really APPRECIATE IT , and I will keep posting as I elimate stuff .
what does anyone think about maybe a timing issue?

Do you have spark from coil to distributor?

If no, there a chance the belt was flopping around and damaged the crank sensor and/or wiring.

Check for bad fuse on ignition . My 1988 did that to me .
