I want to get a second car to drive to work. There was an ad on Craig's List for a 93 Prism for $1,800 and I offered $1,000 cash. He wants to leave town so he said he would take it. I wanted a stick and front wheel drive for the snow so it would be perfect. What do you think? What should I look for? It has 141,000 miles.

Here's what I've experienced I just bought a geo prizm. Look for vibration from the car at 3rd gear or higher, it might be a bad cv joint or wheel bearing.Check the clutch play if you get a hard shift then it might be a bad gear or trans or the clutch might be on its way out especially if you drive and it jumps out of gear. Also look for any signs of smoke coming from the engine, leaking oil etc. Also check the spark plug wires and see if they have any whitish residue could be bad wires. Check you steering & wheel alignment could be worn ball joints, bad wheel bearings, tie rods etc. Check too, your fluids , your oil if its black then question the oil change intervals check your antifreeze if it's not green but brown or discolored question that also. Check your shocks if you get bottomed out everytime you hit a bump bad struts. I didn't have all these problems but I had vibration and I had to fix a wheel bearing and cv axle not a major pain for a $1000.00 dollar car but I have car that has a good clutch and engine. Look into the different forums here and at toyota corolla and you'll get more info than what's offered here.
