heater won't switch

I have a 2003 turbo GLX Beetle ( as soon as warrenty ran out oh did the problems start :banghead: )
The knob that switches the heater to the AC turns just fine, but you always have heat no matter what you do, even if you just use the outside vent. Any ideas on what might have caused this new problem (proble #78 since warrenty expired)
