Park Brake Release Trigger

My park brake works perfectly but when I try to release it I find I must reeatedly operate the trigger and the warning light is reluctant to go out. When I apply my footbrake when driving the warning light comes on. Has anyone experienced this fault? and do you have any information that might help? Thanks
