seat cover installation?

I just bought new PUI seat covers for my 80 firebird formula. I never dreamed how hard it would be to fit them over the seats. They are the Lombardy cloth with hobnail inserts. I'm almost afraid to procede for fear of damaging the new covers. Does anyone have any tips or instructions or should I take them to a pro?
