Hey new to the forum hope some one can give me some help.
1980 diesel rabbit. Has been sitting for un-known years. I have no history on this car. Changed all fluids and filters. new starter, new alternator. new glow plugs. I put vacume on the fuel line and have fuel up to the pump. when cranking it to start, it seems to be doing somthing. Their is some smoke coming out of the air box. I tryed pressurizing the tank with a rag and air pressure while having somone else crank the motor over but no luck could I have over pressurized the tank? any thoughts? Thanks Scott

So, what I learned works for priming the fuel system all the way to the cylinders as described in a haynes repair manual, is to lossen the fuel line nuts attached to the top of each of the four fuel injectors (17mm crescent wrench). Then crank engine without letting the glowplugs warm up, this will pump fuel all the way to the injectors. When you can see fuel on the injectors, tighten the nuts back up, warm up the glow plugs and you should be good to go. Of course it's important also that the timing is correct, which is really rather simple, but time consuming.
