I have a 98 with 3800 engine that has been cranking slower the past few weeks when cold. It has never failed to start, but a new battery has not helped. Could this be a starter going bad?:uhoh:

Some things to check would be the battery cables, pull them off the battery, then pull the boots of the cables and check for corrosion, if youre feeling real ambitious you could also check the connections at the starter.

I had a similar issue for a while, then I discovered that the little tab that turns off the lamp inside my glove box and come off, allowing my glove box light to stay on all the time. That little lamp would draw power from my battery even after the car was off until luckily the cars electrical system would cut power too it, but it was making my battery weak.

So you might check for interior lamps that are still on or see if there is anything else drawing power after the car is off that isnt supposed to be.

Replaced the starter with a reman this week and all is well. :) It took about 6-8 weeks of daily use (getting worse) before it failed to crank at all. My guess is the brushes are just worn out.

this reminds me of a guy I knew whos truck turned over very slow...replaced battery, altenator, eventually the starter and it still cranked slow. Turns out he was one of those "change your oil when you change your brakes" kinda guys...needless to say nearly 2 years on the same oil and about 40,000 km later...that engine was giving up. :shakehead:screwy:

glad to hear the starter fixed your issues....
