hey guys and gals, was pinging aroung on zzp and found a coil on plug prototype....

Its a rather interesting concept and looks like a rather good design. Check it out.
Just was wondering what the advantages/disadvantages of such a setup would be compared to the regular plug wires. What do you guys think?

I call :bs:!!!
IMO waste of frickin' money. A while back ZZP claimed nothing beats the stock DIS ignition system and used the stock system which included the Delco ignition wires and stock coil packs in their super modded Grand Prixs to break the 10 second ET barrier.
You could go for it when it is released for sale and tell us what the advantages or disadvantages are. :lol: ZZP should back this questionable mod with real cold hard facts which includes real world testing and applicability for use. :2cents:

Until it's proven to increase performance, I'll take a comic shot at it.
I guess it could be cool for the "open the hood and stare at the engine and go OOOOOH" crowd. They need to make a chrome engraved cover for where the coils used to go and color coordinated wire loom to match the car. Then it would be really whiz-bang neato!!

However, I agree that the GM DIS system provides adequate spark (up to 50,000V) so a setup like this really is IMO not necessicary.
Just wanted to see what you guys thought before I opened my big mouth.
Maybe it prolongs the life of the ignition module by keeping it cooler than it would be with 3 coils on top of it. (only advantage I could think of???)

In theory it looks like a neat set-up. But considering how well the factory ignition works, I don't see it being a high "bang-for-the-buck" mod.

I don't know about neat but it won't pass muster on as it is on final production as it relates to proper engineering and QAQC aspects. I know some Industrial Engineers that would have a field day with this mod. It would be interesting to see the cost on this mod. The biggest problem I see is it will make routine spark plug replacement a PITA and there is more to go wrong.
I'm happy with my MSD Blaster coils and 8.5mm wires. :grinyes:
