I own a 2001 GT that has the Tremec 3650 tranny. As of now I believe the synchros have gone bad so im looking at a few options here.1st im not gonna worry about rebuilding mine cuz I can get a performance one rebuilt for about 1250.But since these trany's seem to suck from what Ive read i was thinking of going with the TKO500.If I do this swap does anyone know exactly what I will need or will this swap right into the car.Im meaning will I need a new clutch, fork, cable, tranny mount, drive shaft anything at all.Maybe someone could direct me to good place for a rebiult 3650,Im stock now and If I did do anything it would just be some bolt-ons so I dont think I need one to withstand alot horsepower or torque.

Just rebuild your tranny. If your not going to really build the car then dont throw away the money at a TKO.

Yeah I understand that but I dont get why the 3650 has gone out at 70,000 miles,I have never had a manual tranny go out that soon,I had T5 go out in my TA years back but that was with 120,000 plus miles on it and I dogged that one.I dont race it,I just get on it from time to time...say like getting on the highway,I dont even intentionally burn the tires on this car.Thats why I was thinking of getting one with a better rep.Besides isnt these tranny's really expensive to rebiuld,Like I said in the first post I can can buy one rebuilt with performane oriented for about 1250,but im open for anyone giving me some better links to check,I guess thats what my question is now.The local shops around here wont even give me a quote for a rebuild, and im not about to take it to ford here,it took 4 visits to get the pulley on the ac right. So any suggestions on some links for a rebuilt tranny?I mean for the 3650.

Just to make sure the tranny is shot before you replace/rebuild it. What makes you think its bad?

This is why I think its on its way out.Maybe Im wrong.
Clutch replacement done in 9/06
Clutch disk,Pressure plate,Throw-out bearing, and pilot bearing.
Current Problems:
Started making a rattle-chirpping type sound for a short time then stopped, but before it stopped when a small amout of pressure was applied to the pedal the noise would stop and then when driving at slow speeds, mainly 1st gear an a little bit in 2nd gear I would hear a whine type of sound.Since the sounds stopped thats when I noticed that 2nd and 3rd had become hard to shift into, would make a clattering-grinding sound. But really its all gears 2nd-5th just more noticeable in 2nd and 3rd gears. At times its hard to shift into 1st and reverse when at a stop. When driving and keeping the rpm's under 3k it seems to shift fine its when you take it over 3k on the rpm's that make these symptoms come about.
At highway speeds if I take it to 3k rpm's when going into gears 3rd-5th it doesnt seem to be grinding,it feels more like the shifter is binding, again 3rd and 5th gears are the most noticable but it does it in all gears(3rd-5th).
Also I believe that in the early morning hours while it was quiet cold outside within the first 10 minutes of the car running I noticed that at about the same time I pushed in the clutch pedal the shifter had popped out of 1st or 2nd gear, cant remember which, but only noticed it 3 or 4 times.
I am planning on taking it into a tranny shop here to be sure,Ive talked with a local car club and they tell me there is one that can be trusted to look at it,but most of them take theirs to nearby Houston for their needs.

NM,got quoted for 1250-1500 at the minium for:synchros, seals, and bearings.I found a couple sites of texas based company's sellling rebuilt ones for $995 in dallas and one in Houston for 1250 with heavier forks.Im about half way in between the two so I can easily pick them up myself for no shipping charge.I know nothing about the inside of a tranny so I dont think that is something I can do myself, done many clutches and rearends, but never a tranny.

This is NOT an easy tranny to work on; you should be very mechanically inclined before you jump into a 3650. It has an integrated bellhousing and you need a press. I'd look for a re-built; it'll be cheaper than a TKO and you need a bellhousing to go along with the TKO. It'll run you around $2000+ for the tranny and bellhousing.
