1995 Explorer Stalls at Idle

I have a 1995 Explorer XLT, 4x4, that stalls at idle. It starts fine, however, during idles it stalls. After the engine is warmed, the problem does not go away. But, it is often difficult to start after a normal shutdown. It will crank, but only start if the throttle is opened all the way. There are no codes showing.
So far I have replaced the MAF, the fuel filter, the fuel pump, the Air Temp sensor, and the EGR position sensor/control. I have attempted to locate the MAP, but I am not sure if it has one or not. The only other thing left is to replace the IAC.
Are there any suggestions before I do any more?

I had a similar problem with my 99 4.0 SOHC Explorer, one day when running it just died and would only start with the throttle open and refused to idle. I removed the Idle Air Contrl (IAC) valve and found it was stuck closed, so I cleaned it with carb cleaner to free it. This fixed the problem and it's been running fine since (about 18 months and 20k miles ago). So i'd clean the iac first, then change it as a last resort; but it probably is the culprit as its opening and closing contols the idle. As a note these engines do not use a MAP sensor; but you can keep lookin' if you want! :smooch:

Since his a 95 he has the OHV motor, but yes try and clean teh IAC before anything else, its only held on by two bolts, use carb or electronics cleaner, you may need to use a q-tip or two to actually get the dirt out of it. Good luck. let us know how it goes.

Well, I installed a new IAC, and it did not fix the problem. So far, I have now replaced the MAF, IAC, Air Temp Sensor, EGR Valve position Sensor, Fuel Pressure Regulator, Fuel Filter, and Fuel Pump.
The problem still persists.

Have you checked the spark plugs and plug wires? Also, are you sure you replaced the coolant temp sensor and not the sender? There are two, they look similar, are near one another, but only the sensor will actually help with what sounds like a flooding condition for you.

When you are trying to start the truck, I assume you crank the engine for a short time, then hold the throttle all the way open. With the throttle all the way open, it should go into "Clear Flood" mode and shut off the fuel supply to the cylinders. If you are holding the throttle all the way open from the first attempt to start and it's starting, that would imply that the "Clear Flood" isn't happening and you may have a Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) problem.

Okay, I have replaced the TPS and that has not fixed the problem. The only thing left for me to replace,is the Coolant Temp Sensor, and when I do that, I am going to replace the Thermostat. I have noticed that the temp needle stays in the lower 3rd of the gauge, and often fluctuates. I am going to make sure it has a 192* - 195* thermostat installed.
So far, I have replaced the MAF, Air Temp Sensor, TPS, IAC valve, EGR positions sensor, fuel filter, and fuel pump. The plugs and wires were replaced shortly after I got the car last year.
The only thing left it seems is the Coolant Temp Sensor and the ECM.
