K24 Accord questions

Does anyone know what cause 07 accord with k24 engine to eat gas? My friend is getting around 200 miles per tank and the car is brand spanking new. The car only has 2200 miles on it.

I checked his oil and tires pressure and its fine. The car does run little laggy from stop but maybe that's how new Accords are?

Also oppsite side of the oil filter on the engine, there's plate that looks like some sort of oil catch with some motor oil in it (right under the valve gasket), what is that? I have never anything like it before.

2,200 your not even pass the break in period yet so you have to drive the car easy and dont be so hard on it until a certain mileage i cant remember but you first have to break in the car first and on oil changes keep the oil at 5-20\5-30 until 30,000 miles otherwise you will burn that motor up real fast and also the type of gas you put in can make a real big difference too i think tha manual states high octane but middle octane will work aka 87-89-91 cheap-more expensive-most expensive and that plate should be a micro screen allowing oil to pass through and not foreign material aka metal or plastic

Your statement about the gas mileage is not specific enough to make a determination. What type of driving? How many miles per gallon? Need to do some testing and become more specific about the problem. Then with this information go to the dealer. The car is still under warranty and they will fix what is causing the problem if in indeed there is a problem. Get back to us on the results.

Problem SOLVED, it turned out that the valve cover gasket and headgasket was bad. The engine was leaking oil very badly. Honda had it repaired for free! Not sure if there is any internal damage, I hope not, it only has 2200 miles.

EEK. They be giving me a different car...

Had a friend that bought a new Chevy truck. Third day he had it, it overheated like a volcano on the highway...head gasket. Dealer replaced both head gaskets and a week later it put a valve into a cylinder and shattered the piston..

Same thing is happening to my friend's 07 Accord. It may only have 16 miles when he bought it but when I looked at the engine bay, I saw all kinds of markings near the welding spots where all the arms and bones connect, immediately I know that the car must have a history.

We looked it up on carfax and sure enough we saw 2 repairs done to it before he bought it from the dealer. I told him I'm not sure what he can do, but go talk to the dealer and see if they can do anything about it... probably nothing... any idea?

If the car is sold as new, it can not have any repaired damage on it (other than very minor cosmetic blems that happen in transport). Sometimes new cars get damaged in transport, etc, but can't be fixed and sold as new.

They can be really good deals if you find them...when I was looking for a CR-V for my mom, I found one at a dealer in Virginia that the hood and windshield had been damaged in transport, but had been fixed to factory specs...$3000 less than an identical new '07, just because they couldn't sell it as new...12 miles on it...
