...LOL
Cruising home last night, after getting pulled over:mad: (no ticket...we did talk about cars and his 97 Cobra...which is ironic, considering what happens next), I spot this BEAUTIFUL bright silver Cobra R. I always used to think the wings they put on those things were gaudy, but I changed that opinion after seeing it in person.
I got next to it, gave the guy driving it a thumbs up, and pointed forward. MAN! Right after I hear the SC whine, that thing was GONE!. He slowed down and let me catch up to him, another thumbs up, and I had to exit.
I have to say, I was VERY impressed.

you must be just talkin about a Cobra. a Cobra R uses a 5.8 liter truck motor. the "Cobra" are the ones that are blown. and the Cobra R only comes in red. but good race non the less. even though he blew you away. lolz

The Cobra R uses a 5.4 liter version of the DOHC Cobra V8. How dare you call it a truck motor :P :hehehe:

Don't what you were playing with Carrrnuttt, lol. High deck spoiler of the R, but they aren't supercharged. It was either a Cobra R with an aftermarket supercharger, or a regular Cobra with an aftermarket charger AND the wing from the Cobra R...OR a brand new '03 Cobra with the wing from the R....Either way, IT WAS FAST!!:D

I wouldn't know but I think they had other colors. I have a video of a bunch of mustangs doing stunts and drag races. It shows a picture in the intro of a dark blue Cobra R.
Things to look for if it were real is the Cobra R emblems on the seats, and no back seats. Not to mention the wicked looking side exhaust.

Well, there've been a few generations of R's. So there's a chance it might be real.
Of course, the generations previous to the current were SCCA Showroom Stock demons that you needed a valid current competition license to buy. So it's more likely that it isn't a true Cobra R.

The only sn-95 cobra Rs made where the 95 cobra R which was only available in white and had the same low spoiler as my cobra and was equiped with a N/A 351 The other cobra R with the new edge styling is the 2000 Cobra R it had the high deck spoiler and was only available in red. It was equiped with a N/A 5.4 dohc engine. What you messed around with was probably a regular cobra with a supercharger.

That's the one. There's only one other gen of R, and that's a FOX body Mustang.

I thought I read that somewhere (about them being only in red). It is quite possible that he's had it repainted, though. He DEFINITELY had an SC on that thing. I've seen the R in many different magazines, and all the badgings and panels were correct. Oh, did I forget to mention the boost gauge on his A-pillar:D?

RACE? LOLZ. I wouldn't even call it that. I didn't even take-off like I normally would when I am racing...just kinda speeded-up to keep him in my vision as he took-off. I just wanted to see the car run:devil:.

The fox body cobra R was in 1993 Im not a hundred percent sure but I think it was only available in red.
Carrnutt- I doubt it was a cobra R, no body would be crazy enough to repaint a cobra R, too rare. There was only around 300 of the year 2000 Rs made, most are in hands of collectors and sit in gargaes. You can buy all the body parts to make any mustang look like a cobra R. Check out 5.0 Mustang & Super Fords magazines, "project 3g" It looks exactly like a cobra R only its yellow.

Not doubting you, since you're the Mustang person between the two of us, but I have seen a Mclaren F1 that's been painted, modified and have aftermarket rims. Considering there were only 100 of those made, and they had 18-inch TITANIUM rims stock, that was one brave mutha. It was for sale online...looked good, though.
Oh well, real or not, that thing looked nice, and had the performance to back it up...I'd take it:devil:.
(...and the Honda Gods screamed...)

I read that they actually used a 5.4L triton v8, and i'm not sure but aren't the triton v8's truck motors so isn't it actually a modified truck motor.

They didn't use a truck motor they bored the aluminium mustang block and chromely sleeved it to get the displacement. Also the 2000 and 93 Cobra R was only available in red.

Why of course, I hear that that setup equates to somewhere around 500 hp at the wheels for the stang!

maybe it's not an actual truck motor but, it's based on the truck motor and they didn't use an aluminum block they used a cast iron one they also didn't bore the aluminum block from the mustang and chromely sleeve it, the 4.6L and the 5.4L have the exact same bore all ready the only difference is that the 5.4 has a taller deck allowing for a longer stroke and thus more cubic inches the 5.4 has an aditional of stroke of 105.8mm vs. the 4.6-liter's 90.0mm stroke. In order for Ford to turn a 4.6 into a 5.4 they would have to use a different crankshaft either that or add 29mm to the deck height of the 4.6L. Check out paragraph 9.

The Triton/Cobra engines are all part of the Ford modular engine family. Even the 6.8 liter V10 is part of this family of engines. The Mustang Cobra engines are all aluminum DOHC 4 valve per cylinder engines.
The 2003+ Cobra uses an iron block, of 4.6 liters to make it's power, since Ford was counting on people overdriving the blower and stroking the engine and blowing the aluminum block to pieces.
The Cobra R still used the DOHC aluminum V8.
