ABS Light 01 SE

I had a post about a year ago about my illuminated ABS light. I got some really good advice but not enough to get the problem solved. I hooked it up to a $6000 snap-on code reader and could not pull the code through the OBD II connector. So reluctantly I took it to the local $tealer$hip and had it read for $102 out the door. It came up as a rear left wheel sensor. When pulling the wheel I noticed that the caliper was very hot and pad was almost gone with lots of dust, then realized the caliper was sticking. Bad caliper stuck on, heated up the wheel sensor and knocked out the wheel sensor. New sensor $145, loaded caliper $100. $377 out the door. ABS light is out, car stops like new. Moral to the story: If ABS light is on and stays on after battery disconnected overnight, likely a wheel sensor. Dealer only to read ABS. Rear calipers prone to stick, auto parts store sells LOTS of them. This car is driven where they salt the roads. Hope someone gets something out of this.

The rails were the 1st thing that I checked. Free as a bird and had fresh grease. This bind-up was with the piston/cylinder. Thanks for link.

Yes rails - BUT- more important the special grease goes [see the pic] under the piston dust shield rubber - lubricating the piston & caliper cylinder wall.

See also the balance adjustment: if balance is 'front heavy', the rear pistons rarely move in normal everyday use. No movement = rust builds, piston sticks... if brake fluid is over 3yrs old.

Time to time its good to brake hard [ape fury], just while parked, to exercise all bits... like driving 5miles 5000rpm 'cleans' injectors.
