I have gone through 3 bulbs so far for the same brake light (drivers side). There are 2 brake bulbs in each tail light, the outer bulb keeps blowing. Any ideas?

Had this problem on a '99 malibu and an '88 truck. I finally just changed the whole board out. Both quit blowing bulbs.

Go to a junk yard a get a new board, like th above poster mentioned. If its still doing it, I would bet its water leaking into the lamp.

yes, your contacts are touching when you are putting the bulbs in. Did this start, after replacing your first burned out bulb?

Also, some bulbs have a smaller guage filament than others. Those with the smaller guage will burn out monthly (so it seems). Look at the bulbs in the store. Some might be like LL1157 (which means longer life).

Do you see any part of the plastic base melted in behind the wire contacts? My sister's '98 malibu had a similar issue and I was changing bulbs oftern. If so, look for the same bulb with an all glass base (not sure of the part number). If seemed to have solved her issues.
