I got my '02 Grand Prix from a used dealer, and the radio is locked. I've been told that the code is supposedly in the trunk on the door, but can't find it...Would anyone happen to know the code!?!?!?!

You will probably need to go to a dealer to get the unlock code. The codes are unique based on model and year and may differ by vin. Unfortunately, they will charge you for the code and it isn't cheap. Of course you could replace the head unit with a new one and probably have a better stereo system than stock anyway.

I forgot where I got this info but it helped me to unlock my delco radio in my 97 GPGT. Hope this helps:
1. First, press and hold presets two and three for a few seconds. Three digits will come up on the display. These are the first three digits of the factory unlock code.

2. Press the AM/FM button on the unit and another three-digit number will read out. These are the last three digits of your code.

3. Call 1-800-537-5140. You'll be asked for a dealer code, 139010, 206053, and 620529 may work. Enter this number and then press the pound (#) button.

4. Now enter the six-digit code that you got from your stereo, the first three digits first, then the last three. You'll be given a four-digit response code. Make note.

5. In your car, hit the HR button and put in the first two digits of the response code. Then press the MIN button and put the last two digits of your response code. Press AM/FM and then SEC should read out on your radio.

6. You should be unlocked!

great info, but you forgot to tell him how to get the 6 digit code from his radio.

-when the radio displays "loc" press and hold either 2 & 3 together or 4 & 5 (i believe) together. The first 3 digits are displayed

-then push the am/fm button and the last 3 digits are displayed

-from this point you can do what JonJon said above.

GM's factory scan tool,Tech 2 has to be used to unlock the radio and this started in 2001.The 2001 and up factory GM radios have to be programed with Tech 2 also or the radio will not work.

When i put my factory radio back in my 97 SE i unlocked it the way jonjon mentioned. As for my 04 gt the radio reads the vin # some how and will not lock as long as you have the original radio that came with the car.

I have the stock radio. I got the codes that you can get by pushing 2 and 3...which is 152 and 155. It's a 2002...will calling the phone number help?

Try it and let us know how it turns out. Can't hurt, it's a toll free number. Moreover, it's a recording so you don't talk to a live person, which is good in this case.

Ok...so i got the code off that number you guys gave me, and i tried the steps...the code it gave me was 6384...well, there is no 8 on my radio...and now my radio says InOp on it...so i'm guessing i'm just screwed? Will installing a different stereo change anything? Or will it still be locked?

No, your not scewed, you're probably going to have the dealer unlock it as GTP Dad mentioned. Why purchase another radio if you can use this one? Or as GTP Dad said you have an option of getting an aftermarket unit. If you did that you would lose your radio controls on your steering wheel "If you have that option" but, there's an adapter I heard you can purchase to retain the radio controls along with an aftermarket radio.
Apparently, Wafrederick is correct about 2001 and newer radios (not that I doubted him.) The procedure worked for me because I own a 97. I bought a good used stock radio on e-Bay because my original radio CD player was shot and if I recall correctly, this radio was out of a 99.
In any event, let us know what you decide to do and how things work out.

To the original poster, why don't you take the car back to the dealer you bought if from, and make them unlock the radio? I wouldn't accept a car that way.

well, you have the code needed to unlock the radio. What you needed to do when the radio displayed LOC was to use the MN and HR buttons to input the code and once its in, push the am/fm button. But since now your radio displays INOP, I think you can leave it on for a few hours and it will reset itself to LOC. Just leave the keys in the car, and turn them backwards to allow the radio to be on. Then walk away for a few hours. When you return enter the code.

I performed this procedure this morning and it worked. Since I have a pontiac, I used the dealer code 139010. Here's a hint: Keep your factory unlock code for future reference. You never know when that phone number will be discontinued.

Hi: I have a 2000 Olds Intrigue, same problem LOC on radio. Does the same apply for an Olds as it is a GM product? I would appreciate any help. I bought my car privately and the battery went dead so now no radio and I am going bonkers without my stereo!!
Thanks, loveGM

Hi all:
I tried the information that JonJon68 posted and guess what? It worked!!! Thanks so very much. I called that 1-800 num and it said put in 3 for Olds so I used the third number listed 620529 and it gave me 1270 for the code. I ran out to the car, input the code and I now have my radio.
You guys are great!!!
